丛 is mainly treated here through the Wendeng residence-name tradition. A source-backed account says descendants of Jin Midi, originally the Xiongnu Xiutu king's crown prince and later a Han court minister, moved east to Congjiaxian in today's Wendeng, Shandong; descendants then used the place name Cong as their surname. This became the dominant later Cong line, and sources note that the Wendeng Cong family became a local notable clan.
