Origin note
Fu/扶 is a multi-layer surname. One ancient layer links it to Fudeng, described either as a Yu-era minister or as an office connected with assisting rulerly construction and enthronement. A second layer comes from Xianbei Qifu/Qifu compound surnames simplified to Fu during northern-dynasty surname change. A third layer says descendants of Han figure Wu Jia used the imperial granted-name Fu Jia as a surname source. These are kept separate.
