Jing has a strong Chu-state core layer and several secondary source layers. The main historically specific line is the Chu Jing clan: modern discussions summarized by Wikipedia connect the Jing clan with Chu Ping Wang and, based on bronze and bamboo-slip evidence, with his elder son Zixi. In Chu political society, Jing was one of the royal clan names alongside Qu and Zhao, and later became a regular surname after the Warring States surname/clan distinctions blurred. Traditional surname sources also preserve a Jing Cha line, saying descendants of the Chu noble and literary figure Jing Cha used his name as a surname. A second layer comes from the Jiang-surname Qi line: descendants of Qi Jing Gong are said to have used his posthumous title Jing as a surname. 23mofang adds later layers from Jingzhou place-name usage, Geng-to-Jing change, and minority or borderland Jing surnames, so this entry presents the Chu clan as the core layer and keeps the Qi, place-name, and adoption layers separate.
