One source-backed layer derives it from Jinghou, remembered in surname books as an ancestor whose descendants used Jing. A second layer says descendants of Guangwu emperor Liu Xiu’s elder relative Jingsun used Jingsun as a compound surname that later shortened to Jing. A third layer says descendants of the Han scholar Jing Fang changed the graph from Jing/京 to Jing/经 after political disaster. Later Manchu and Mongol layers are kept as separate adoption accounts.
