Origin

Time: Xia-dynasty tradition, c. 2070-1600 BCE

Place: Qin Lu locality tradition around Shaanxi / Gansu and Xunyi / Xianyang area in later explanations; Chu royal-descendant layer; Guangping and Linhe commandery prestige geography; later Ming distribution in Shandong, Zhejiang, Hebei, and Henan

Origin note

Lu/逯 is best read as a fief or locality-name surname. The main source-backed layer says a Qin noble of the Ying lineage was enfeoffed at Lu, and descendants used the locality name as a surname. A second layer records Chu royal descendants of the Mi lineage using Lu. Some later summaries add a Xianbei changed-surname layer, so the page notes it as secondary rather than merging it into the Qin and Chu accounts.
