The best-supported early line is Jiang-surname and place-name based: Jiang Ziya was enfeoffed in Qi and used Yingqiu as an early capital, and collateral descendants who lived at Yingqiu used Qiu as a surname; 23mofang also names Qiu Mu Gong as a later honored ancestor in this tradition. A second layer is linked with other ancient place and clan lines, including Qiu Ruo of the Zhu or Zou sphere, Wanqiu in Chen, and possible Si- or Gui-surname branches. A third layer comes from compound surnames or old surname forms such as Guanqiu, Wuqiu, Fongqiu, or Fuqiu later shortened to Qiu.
